Local accounting firm supports The Hospital for Special Care through title sponsorship of 5K race

Glastonbury, Conn., (April 3, 2019) – MahoneySabol, a regional certified public accounting firm based in Connecticut, has partnered with the Travelers Championship to host their fourth annual MahoneySabol 5K at the Travelers Championship on Saturday, April 27. The 5K event will take place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, home to the Travelers Championship, and proceeds will be contributed to the Neuromuscular Care Center at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) to benefit patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

“This is our fourth year as the title sponsor of the MahoneySabol 5K at the Travelers Championship and we are excited to continue the tradition with extending our support to Hospital for Special Care,” said Jim Mahoney, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of MahoneySabol. “Our goal has always been to give back to our community through the family-friendly event. All of the race participants are giving to people in need and we can all feel good about that.”

HSC, located in New Britain and Hartford, is the fourth largest, free-standing long term acute care hospitals in the United States and one of only two in the nation’s serving both adults and children. HSC is a dual certified ALS Association and Muscular Dystrophy Association Center of Excellence. Additionally, they are home to Connecticut’s first and only inpatient autism unit and have been recognized as the nation’s first and only Patient Centered Specialty Practice in Autism. Hospital for Special Care is also recognized for advanced care and rehabilitation in pulmonary care, acquired brain injury, medically complex pediatrics, spinal cord injury and comprehensive heart failure.

“The MahoneySabol 5k at the Travelers Championship has a phenomenal positive impact on our capacity to care for patients diagnosed with ALS,” said Lynn Ricci, FACHE, President & CEO Hospital for Special Care. “Each year this event boosts the spirits of our patients and their families immeasurably and the funds raised help support the most advanced clinical care available. We are so very thankful.”

The MahoneySabol 5K event will include a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) race, a 1.5 Mile Fitness Walk, and a Kids Run featuring both ½ mile and 1 mile runs. The race course travels along the Cromwell roads that line the fairways and greens of Connecticut’s legendary PGA TOUR stop. Before and after the race the family can enjoy mini golf, inflatables, face painters, and more in the Kids Zone. At the end of the race MahoneySabol is hosting a Post-Race Celebration with complimentary food from Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ and The Salad Bar, ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, and beer from Two Roads Brewery. Additionally, all race participants will get a one day ticket valid for any one day admission to the 2019 Travelers Championship and a Tech T-shirt.
