Michael J. VanDeventer is a partner in the assurance services department, as well as a co-leader of the public sector practice group.

As engagement partner, Michael has overall and ultimate responsibility for all audit work performed for the towns served. He maintains continuing contact through the review of town data, risk assessments, design of audit approach, review of engagement documentation and discussions with town and engagement personnel.

Michael has over 16 years of experience focused in auditing municipalities and quasi-governmental agencies. He has an in-depth understanding of municipal financial reporting and has been extensively involved in the development of comprehensive annual financial reports that have qualified for the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program. Michael also takes an active role in analyzing and developing implementation plans for new GASB standards and often leads training seminars on governmental topics. He is knowledgeable of reporting requirements of OMB Circular A-133, the Uniform Guidance and the state single audit act. Michael serves as the engagement partner for several local governmental audit engagements.

Michael graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting as well as a Master’s of Science Degree in Accounting.

Michael is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA), and the Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee of the CTCPA.
