Jay Rasmus is one of the firm’s tax partners and provides services to a variety of clients. His focus is working with owner-managed companies in maximizing stakeholder value. He helps business owners link their personal objectives with their companies’ short and long term goals. He also has been involved in mergers and acquisitions with an expertise in closely held and family businesses within a wide range of industries.
Jay’s practice areas include flow through entities (partnerships and S corporations), estates and trusts, succession planning, transaction advisory services (both buy and sell side M &A activities) and executive tax and business consulting. Jay also has spent a considerable amount of time in the renewable industry consulting on structure and tax incentives. In addition, he has worked with clients with international operations both inbound and outbound, and has extensive expertise dealing with foreign bank accounting rules.
Long-term client relationships are the cornerstone of Jay’s beliefs. The measurement of a successful business relationship is exceeding the client’s expectations, while continuously bringing new ideas and cutting-edge planning to the forefront. Jay has also served on numerous boards of closely held companies.
Prior to joining MahoneySabol, Jay served as managing partner and a member of the executive committee at the Connecticut practice of one of the largest regional accounting and advisory firms in New England. His prior 10 years of experience was with a “big four” accounting firm, where he was a tax senior manager working with entrepreneurial companies.
Jay received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Central Connecticut State University, and a Master’s Degree in Taxation from the University of Hartford.
